Support the Endowment for Charter Day 2025

Building a Legacy That Lasts Forever

Since our charter on April 12th, 1934, the Beta Eta Chapter has produced leaders of the highest stature, across every community, industry, and pillar in society. This aptitude of Beta Eta brothers is influenced heavily by their time in Carbondale. Now we are paying it forward with a powerful initiative.

As we celebrate 91 years of service this April, in Carbondale and abroad, now is an opportune time to make a financial commitment to the Beta Eta Endowment Fund.

What is the Endowment Fund?

The fund aims to provide lasting support to future generations of undergraduate members of the chapter. The resources created from the initiative will afford these scholars and leaders with the resources necessary to uphold a standard of excellence academically, professionally, and civically. The impacts of this endeavor will fortify the Beta Eta legacy at a scale realized for generations to come.

The Goal

Beta Eta’s charter members made history at the SIU Carbondale campus decades ago. Now, our goal is to carry that same light with establishing a $1 million endowment over the next 10 years.

This charter day, your contribution, big or small, plays a vital role in helping us reach our mark.

More about the Endowment

The endowment is dedicated to fostering a more inclusive and equitable campus environment by supporting initiatives under the Office of Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

  • Scholarships for Equity: We offer scholarships to deserving students who demonstrate a financial need and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • Empowering Achievement: Scholarships are awarded to the winner and runner-up of the Miss Eboness Pageant, recognizing their contributions to the Black community.

  • Celebrating Academic Excellence: A scholarship supports a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Beta Eta Chapter, with the highest GPA, honoring both academic achievement and the chapter's rich history on campus.

Lasting Recognition: The endowment will contribute to a permanent monument on campus that celebrates the rich history and legacy of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Beta Eta Chapter.

“Love is man's natural endowment, but he doesn't know how to use it. He refuses to recognize the power of love because of his love of power.

One of the things I keep learning is that the secret of being happy is doing things for other people.”

— Bro. Dick Gregory | Beta Eta Chapter

IMAGiNE 2030:

Strategic Pillars

There are several competing priorities on a campus as large and as diverse as ours. In an effort to give our teams focus, we have identified five strategic pillars to give our faculty, staff and strategic partners clarity about the areas we will prioritize in our planning and funding.

We have organized our objectives and initiatives around these five pillars, and we will work to identify our measurable goals and add new initiatives as we tackle this plan in the coming years.

STUDENT SUCCESS & ENGAGEMENT

  • We will have a diverse and culturally responsible student body fully engaged in the SIU Carbondale experience, thriving in the face of robust academic challenges, and gaining practical skills to allow them to enter the workforce as effective ambassadors for our University.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY & INCLUSION

  • Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be the model for inclusive excellence; we will engage and welcome all stakeholders on and off campus.

BRANDING & PARTNERSHIPS

  • SIU Carbondale will be a “first-choice” institution, compared favorably to the flagship institution. The University will take a much stronger role in actively improving connections within the community, state, nation, and world through key partnerships.

RESEARCH & INNOVATION

  • SIU will support and foster the discovery of knowledge and creative professional achievement to benefit the world and the people of our region.

SUSTAINABILITY

  • To become known as a forward-thinking, environmentally responsible University that embraces sustainability, reduces its carbon footprint, pursues conscientious energy efficiencies, and creates new innovative practices to become a leader in sustainability within the state and higher education community.
